Rupee 500 and Rupee 2000 Note Design and Specification

RBI has announced the new series of Rupee 500 and Rupee 2000 notes and will be available in banks soon. However there will restriction on withdrawing the new currency by maintaining limit of daily capping per user account. Two new series of notes will be in market from tomorrow with denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 respectively. Both series of notes have their own feautres.


The new Rs 500 notes are different from the present series in colour, size, theme, location of security features and design elements. The size off new Rs 500 note is 63mm x 150mm. The colour of the notes is stone grey and the predominant new theme is Indian heritage site - Red Fort.

Salient features so present on a new Rs 500 note are:

Front / Obverse:
1. See through register in denomination numeral.
2. Latent image of the denomination numeral.


3. Denomination numeral in Devnagari.
4. Orientation and relative position of Mahatama Gandhi portrait changed.
5. Windowed security thread changes colour from green to blue when note is titled.
6. Guarantee clause, Governor's signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem shifted towards right.
7. Portrait and electrotype watermarks.
8. Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.
9. Denomination in numerals with Rupee Symbol in colour changing ink (green to blue) on bottom right.
10. Ashoka pillar emblem on right.
Rs 500 Obverse/Front Side
For visually impaired:
Intaglio or raised printing of Mahatama Gandhi portrait, Ashoka pillar emblem, bleed lines and identity mark continue
11. Circle with Rs 500 in raised print on the right.
12. 5 bleed lines on left and right in raised print.


Reverse:
13. Year of printing of the note on left.
14. Swachh Bharat logo with slogan.
15. Language panel towards centre.
16. Red Fort - an image of Indian heritage site with Indian flag.

Rs 500 Back/Reverse Side
The Reserve Bank of India is introducing new design banknotes in the denomination of Rs 2000 as part of Mahatama Gandhi (New) Series. The new denomination has motif of the Mangalayan on the reverse, depicting the country's first venture in interplanetary space. The base colour of the note is magenta. The note hass other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall scheme, both on the obverse and the reverse. The size of the note is 66mm x 166 mm.

Salient features of Rs 2000 notes are:

Obverse/Front:
1. See through register with denominational numeral 2000
2. Latent image with denominational numeral 2000 which can be seen when the banknote is held at 45 degree at the eye level.
3. Denominational numeral २००० in Devnagari
4. Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre
5. Micro letters ‘RBI’ and ‘2000’ on the left side of the banknote
6. Windowed security thread with inscriptions ‘भारत’, RBI and 2000 on banknotes with colour shift. Colour of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted

7. Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards right
8. Denominational numeral with Rupee Symbol, ₹2000 in colour changing ink (green to blue) on bottom right
9. Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right
10. Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (2000) watermarks
11. Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side

Rs 2000 Note Obverse/Front Side
